(GOD speaking) “Return, backsliding children! I will heal your backsliding.”
Yes, we will come to You for You are ADONAI Eloheinu. (Jer 3:22)
The temptation to let go of our Papà’s hand and go wandering comes upon us all. Lust, the desire to do or try something, especially something wrong or unwise, seems predominant. And when it comes to facing GOD we’ve got more excuses than a pregnant Nun.
But GOD is saying that He can – and is willing, to heal us from our backsliding, if only we will come to Him.
This is the kind of life you’ve been invited into, the kind of life Christ lived. He suffered everything that came his way so you would know that it could be done, and also know how to do it, step-by-step.
He never did one thing wrong, Not once said anything amiss. They called him every name in the book and he said nothing back. He suffered in silence, content to let God set things right.
He used his servant body to carry our sins to the Cross so we could be rid of sin, free to live the right way.
His wounds became your healing. You were lost sheep with no idea who you were or where you were going. Now you’re named and kept for good by the Shepherd of your souls. (1 Peter 2:21)
As the Lord keeps reminding me, walking with him is all about choice. Tiredness, boredom, ugly thoughts, etc, will always attack us and it’s only by lifting our eyes up to him that we can ever hope to overcome and truly become his sheep.
Child of the Living God – you are known, loved, forgiven, led, named and kept for good by the Shepherd of your soul. X
Be good to your servant, GOD; be as good as your Word. Train me in good common sense; I’m thoroughly committed to living your way.
Before I learned to answer you, I wandered all over the place, but now I’m in step with your Word. You are good, and the source of good; train me in your goodness. The godless spread lies about me, but I focus my attention on what you are saying; They’re bland as a bucket of lard, while I dance to the tune of your revelation.
My troubles turned out all for the best— they forced me to learn from your textbook. Truth from your mouth means more to me than striking it rich in a gold mine. (Psalm 119:65)
Such a beautiful Psalm. So many Powerful truths. For me – it’s all about quieting the voices around me (and in my head) that constantly try to tempt me away from my Loving Father’s Goodness into situations that prove to ultimately be as ‘bland as a bucket of lard’.
Lord Your Word says “Before I learned to answer you, I wandered all over the place …” Please help me to understand what it means to keep in step with Your Word. Amen. X
Light, space, zest— that’s GOD! So, with him on my side I’m fearless, afraid of no one and nothing.
When vandal hordes ride down ready to eat me alive, Those bullies and toughs fall flat on their faces.
When besieged, I’m calm as a baby. When all hell breaks loose, I’m collected and cool.
I’m asking GOD for one thing, only one thing: To live with him in his house my whole life long. I’ll contemplate his beauty; I’ll study at his feet. That’s the only quiet, secure place in a noisy world, The perfect getaway, far from the buzz of traffic.
God holds me head and shoulders above all who try to pull me down. I’m headed for his place to offer anthems that will raise the roof! Already I’m singing God-songs; I’m making music to GOD.
Listen, GOD, I’m calling at the top of my lungs: “Be good to me! Answer me!” When my heart whispered, “Seek God,” my whole being replied, “I’m seeking him!” Don’t hide from me now!
You’ve always been right there for me; don’t turn your back on me now. Don’t throw me out, don’t abandon me; you’ve always kept the door open. My father and mother walked out and left me, but GOD took me in.
Point me down your highway, GOD; direct me along a well-lighted street; show my enemies whose side you’re on. Don’t throw me to the dogs, those liars who are out to get me, filling the air with their threats.
I’m sure now I’ll see God’s goodness in the exuberant earth. Stay with GOD! Take heart. Don’t quit. I’ll say it again: Stay with GOD. (Psalm 27:1)
It’s almost 2017, so who are the modern day Vandals, bullies and toughs out to get me? For me it’s the negative thoughts and perceptions that flow constantly in and around me. Thoughts that are particularly designed to paralyse, hinder and stall me long enough for the devil to come and steal away the yet unborn baby of faith right out of my womb!
The psalmist knew how to overcome and tells us plainly: “Stay with GOD! Take heart. Don’t quit. I’ll say it again: Stay with GOD.” X
As long as you did what you felt like doing, ignoring God, you didn’t have to bother with right thinking or right living, or right anything for that matter. But do you call that a free life? What did you get out of it? Nothing you’re proud of now. Where did it get you? A dead end.
But now that you’ve found you don’t have to listen to sin tell you what to do, and have discovered the delight of listening to God telling you, what a surprise! A whole, healed, put-together life right now, with more and more of life on the way!
Work hard for sin your whole life and your pension is death. But God’s gift is real life, eternal life, delivered by Jesus, our Master. (Rom 6:20)
Lord, please help me to keep hold of your loving hand and walk away from temptation. Give me a heart that sees the truth of situations and a passion to help others get free too! Amen! X
