… if there is bitter jealousy or competition hiding in your heart, then don’t deny it and try to compensate for it by boasting and being phony. For that has nothing to do with God’s heavenly wisdom but can best be described as the wisdom of this world, both selfish and devilish.
So wherever jealousy and selfishness are uncovered, you will also find many troubles and every kind of meanness. But the wisdom from above is always pure, filled with peace, considerate and teachable. It is filled with love and never displays prejudice or hypocrisy in any form and it always bears the beautiful harvest of righteousness!
Good seeds of wisdom’s fruit will be planted with peaceful acts by those who cherish making peace. (James 3:13)
Lord, help me to be content with just who you made me to be. Amen. X
Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. He had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what.
… He didn’t claim special privileges. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifixion.
Because of that obedience, God lifted him high and honored him far beyond anyone or anything, ever, so that all created beings in heaven and on earth—even those long ago dead and buried—will bow in worship before this Jesus Christ, and call out in praise that he is the Master of all, to the glorious honor of God the Father. (Phil 2:5)
I heard a lady on the radio saying how wonderful it was to hear GOD’s Voice telling her she’d be soon getting a new house/ car/ money etc. What she said next riveted me to the spot. She went on to say how she felt when GOD asked her to move on and to give all her ‘stuff’ away …
He (Jesus) told his next story to some who were complacently pleased with themselves over their moral performance and looked down their noses at the common people:
“Two men went up to the Temple to pray, one a Pharisee, the other a tax man. The Pharisee posed and prayed like this: ‘Oh, God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, crooks, adulterers, or, heaven forbid, like this tax man. I fast twice a week and tithe on all my income.’
“Meanwhile the tax man, slumped in the shadows, his face in his hands, not daring to look up, said, ‘God, give mercy. Forgive me, a sinner.’” Jesus commented, “This tax man, not the other, went home made right with God.”
“If you walk around with your nose in the air, you’re going to end up flat on your face, but if you’re content to be simply yourself, you will become more than yourself.” (Luke 18:9)
So many of us have become ‘sin blind’ and forgotten just how hopeless our lives were before Jesus came into our lives and set us free!
Lord I remember that nothing I did – no self-help books or programmes ever helped me get out of the hole I’d fallen into. Jesus help me not to forget how ugly and toxic life was without You. Keep my heart fresh for You and Your Purposes and aware of other people’s needs. X
Train me, GOD, to walk straight; then I’ll follow your true path. Put me together, one heart and mind; then, undivided, I’ll worship in joyful fear. From the bottom of my heart I thank you, dear Lord; I’ve never kept secret what you’re up to. You’ve always been great toward me—what love! You snatched me from the brink of disaster! God, these bullies have reared their heads! A gang of thugs is after me— and they don’t care a thing about you. But you, O God, are both tender and kind, not easily angered, immense in love, and you never, never quit. So look me in the eye and show kindness, give your servant the strength to go on, save your dear, dear child! Make a show of how much you love me so the bullies who hate me will stand there slack-jawed, As you, GOD, gently and powerfully put me back on my feet. (Psalm 86:8) /br>
Who are these bullies, these thugs? Well the ones ‘constantly’ on my back are: pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath and sloth. So … how do I get away from them??? /br>
(Jesus speaking) “… Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (Mat 11:28). X
(God speaking) “…Don’t be afraid… don’t despair. Your GOD is present among you, a strong Warrior there to save you. Happy to have you back, he’ll calm you with his love and delight you with his songs.” (Zeph 3:16)
Listening to this song on the radio as I think about God’s promise. “Whisper his name and he will hear you. Call out his name and he will come to you. Shout out his name, and he will run to you!”
Oh God we lose our selfish pride. Oh Lord we fall down on our knees. We lift our hands to you and say “you’re all we need!”
Love God, all you saints; God takes care of all who stay close to him, But he pays back in full those arrogant enough to go it alone. Be brave. Be strong. Don’t give up. Expect God to get here soon. (Psa 31:23).
Papà says: “I have never left you, or forsaken you. Feel the weight of my love on you right now …!” X
…Jesus got them together to settle things down. He said, “You’ve observed how godless rulers throw their weight around, how quickly a little power goes to their heads. It’s not going to be that way with you. Whoever wants to be great must become a servant. Whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave. That is what the Son of Man has done: He came to serve, not be served—and then to give away his life in exchange for the many who are held hostage.” (Matt 20:26).
As I see this, the ONLY ‘safe’ motivation is love.
So let’s bin all the “I’ve been to bible college and know what’s what la la,” and I’ve been watching God TV and know just what you need …
Jesus tells us plain : “love one another, and by this ALL men will know that you’re my disciples.” X
