… There was nothing attractive about him, nothing to cause us to take a second look. He was looked down on and passed over, a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand. One look at him and people turned away. We looked down on him, thought he was scum.

But the fact is, it was our pains he carried— our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us. We thought he brought it on himself, that God was punishing him for his own failures. But it was our sins that did that to him, that ripped and tore and crushed him— our sins!

He took the punishment, and that made us whole. Through his bruises we get healed. We’re all like sheep who’ve wandered off and gotten lost. We’ve all done our own thing, gone our own way. And GOD has piled all our sins, everything we’ve done wrong, on him, on him.

He was beaten, he was tortured, but he didn’t say a word. Like a lamb taken to be slaughtered and like a sheep being sheared, he took it all in silence. Justice miscarried, and he was led off— and did anyone really know what was happening? He died without a thought for his own welfare, beaten bloody for the sins of my people. They buried him with the wicked, threw him in a grave with a rich man, Even though he’d never hurt a soul or said one word that wasn’t true. Who believes what we’ve heard and seen? Who would have thought GOD ’s saving power would look like this? (‭‭Isa 53:1)

Most of the poignant life stories we review have either been based upon my own life experiences, testimonies I’ve read and heard, or heart-rending situations that have impacted me sufficiently to make me want to shout out and echo the words of so many philosophers before me through the ages, “those who cannot learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.”

As we meet each character and they open their lives to examination, we see how similar we all really are. How the same grasping passions that were at work in our ancestors in the first century – greed, pride, fear, doubt and even self-loathing, run eternally and consistently through us all within the twenty-first. Even though we view life through a harsh unbending prism of reality because the light and hope of God burns anew and ever faithful towards his children who are locked within their own personal struggles.

In the opening chapters, we see how Karp’s family perished through an outbreak of Cholera and how, in his depressive state, he was kidnapped, brutally abused, and forced into slavery, yet divinely protected and ultimately loved and mothered through the rekindled kindness of a lonely old spinster, who we find is none other than a seventy-year-old, depressed, and companionless, Mary Magdalene.

We also meet several other predominant characters who have already enjoyed a footnote in Christian lore and world mythology. These characters are brought back into the light within the pages of the book, and as we investigate their lives, I believe that we, too, will be challenged by their choices.

From helping a King to rescue a kidnapped princess and working covertly with the occupying Roman forces to rid the islands of evil marauding pirates to then dealing with the terrible demonic powers at the temple of Artemis of Ephesus, Karp is always at the forefront of adventurous events and spurs us all on ever to choose the greater paths of hope and faith.

We appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, to instruct those who are not in their place of battle. Be skilled at gently encouraging those who feel themselves inadequate.

Be faithful to stand your ground. Help the weak to stand again. Be quick to demonstrate patience with everyone. Resist revenge, and make sure that no one pays back evil in place of evil but always pursue doing what is beautiful to one another and to all the unbelievers. (‭‭1 Thes‬ ‭5:14)

I while ago, we were told that a lady in our church had tried to end her life. As I got thinking about her, I could see how circumstances had come together to create the perfect storm and how the devastating tsunami of her life had forced her onto this terrible path.

The thing is, we can either shrug our shoulders at those who are ‘not in their place of battle’ and dismiss them with an ugly, “well, where were they when ‘I’ needed help?” Or, we can open up our ‘me-focussed’ agenda and give back some of the love we’ve been more than happy to receive.

Remember – it’s self-evident that the enemy will always seek to penetrate the weakest link in any battle line, so it’s ALL our job to secure and hold the line – that way, we can ALL live in Peace.

You come at me with sword and spear and battle-ax. I come at you in the name of GOD -of-the-Angel-Armies, the God of Israel’s troops, whom you curse and mock. This very day GOD is handing you over to me. (1 Sam‬ ‭17:45)

We received a beautiful family picture a few years back of a lovely Italian lady, her husband and 3 children. She had visited us when she was a few months pregnant but became worried because this was her fourth pregnancy, and each time, she had miscarried.

I watched and listened as my wife and a few other women prayed for her, and later, she went for a shower. 30 Minutes later, she came back down to us sobbing as she had spotted blood in the shower.

I remember that instead of sympathy, something powerful rose up in me, and I heard myself telling her that this was no time for the tears of defeat, but she had to rise up like David against her Goliath and tell the devil to “GET OFF MY CHILDREN!”

She never did miscarry again, and as I said, she has had two other children since.

Rise up, Child of the Living GOD. Take your place beside your Heavenly Father and stand your ground over the Holy promises He’s given you!

I lie awake each night thinking of you and reflecting on how you help me like a father. I sing through the night under your splendor-shadow, offering up to you my songs of delight and joy!

With passion I pursue and cling to you. Because I feel your grip on my life, I keep my soul close to your heart. (‭‭Psa‬ ‭63)

Go back and think about the first time you actually met GOD… wasn’t it amazing?!? For me, it was the time that True Love actually stepped into the ugly mess of my life and blew all my fuses!

I couldn’t think of anything ‘but’ GOD, and I struggled to even remember to breathe – all my emotions shooting out in all directions like fireworks, and as the volcano of my hurts and fears exploded, His Love began to flood through me and wash away ALL the ugliness that I’d kept hidden…!

Well … today is a day to remember His grip on your life. Holy Father, remind us again of Your Awesome Love …!

You may think you’re right all the time, but God thoroughly examines our motives. (‭‭Pro ‭21:2)

We humans are excellent at justifying our actions – especially when we’re caught out!

(Q) The relationship with the young girl at work might seem innocent enough, but where’s it heading?

(Q) The magazine you found at the Gym tickles your fancy, but where’s that heading?

(Q) The drink you consumed last night helped chase away the shadows, but where’s it heading?

GOD knows everything, and He always examines all our motives, so why not stop and ask Him to reveal them to us? … perhaps the shock of the yawning chasm we’re ultimately heading towards would scare the heck out of us and turn us back?

GOD, I invite your searching gaze into my heart. Examine me through and through; find out everything that may be hidden within me. Put me to the test and sift through all my anxious cares. See if there is any path of pain I’m walking on, and lead me back to your glorious, everlasting ways— the path that brings me back to you. (‭‭Psa 139:23)

Be good husbands to your wives. Honour them, delight in them.

As women they lack some of your advantages. But in the new life of God’s grace, you’re equals.

Treat your wives, then, as equals so your prayers don’t run aground. (‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭3:7‬)

As I write this, I’m remembering a great card that said: “Don’t laugh at your husband’s choices; you’re one of them!”

Seeds of anger, bitterness, toxic jealousy, and revenge cannot be allowed to live in us because we have been born again from a GOD Who tells us that HE IS LOVE!

We pray from the NEW HEART He gave us – a heart of Love. We pray through GOD’s Holy Spirit for those in need, with the compassion that comes from a new heart of LOVE.

Remember – feelings are (always) subject to change – but the foundation remains firm – WE HAVE ALL BEEN MADE EQUAL IN CHRIST!

Who are you, Lord?” “I am Jesus, the Victorious… (‭‭Acts‬ ‭9:5)

My mother told me a story of how at five years old, I almost drowned at our local open-air Lido swimming pool.

All I remember about the event is an intense emotion rising as I watched everyone around me laughing, jumping in and having fun, and I so wanted to join in too – so I jumped in!

Unfortunately, as I didn’t know how to swim, I just sank like a stone. I remember sitting at the bottom of the pool, thinking that this isn’t as much fun as I thought it would be when ‘something’ (a hand?) grabbed me by the hair and dragged me back up to the surface and drew me out.

I looked around to see who it was, and there was no one there – just more kids running, jumping, laughing and playing.

I’m convinced that there will be many opportunities for our Lord to appear and save us even today. Sometimes He’ll appear as Himself and sometimes as someone else (Jesus with skin on)!

So wherever you are on this journey – or whoever you’re praying for, He won’t (He can’t) let us down. Just trust Him to turn up …

GOD, simply because of who he is, is not going to walk off and leave his people. GOD took delight in making you into his very own people. (‭‭1 Sam 12:22)

A while back, a delightful friend sent me her daughter’s testimony which I’ve just got to share as it reinforces GOD’s Awesome Faithfulness to never leave or forsake us.

“Amen to your testimony!!! Something similar happened to (my daughter) a few years back when she got hit by a car, crossing the road outside St Mark’s Church …… she was hit full force, thrown up and over the bonnet of the car, and landed on the other side of the road….. hospital said she probably shouldn’t have survived…. but she remembers something lifting her up over the car, like a strong hand…. she walked away with a scratched elbow and one awesome testimony!!!!!”

Holy Father, stir up the faith of those reading this testimony in that NOTHING is impossible to You, and NOTHING will ever separate us from Your Great Love and Grace. Amen!

… Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it…. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing. (‭‭Eph 2:7)

Years ago, we redecorated our offices each year and rather than pay a decorator for the service, the staff did the painting, and we shared the monies equally between them.

I was in my office handling the calls while my secretary decided that the best way to clean the ceiling tiles was to stand on a wheelie chair on top of a desk – a disaster waiting to happen.

I remember hearing a roar of wheels followed by a crash and a sickening thump, and running out, I saw her crumpled on the floor by a window.

I knelt by her side and gently held her to my chest. She was extremely disoriented, having hit her face on the window ledge, and blood was pouring down her face from a horrible open gash above her nose.

I saw a box of tissues on a desk and asked my secretary’s assistant to give me some. I took a bunch and held them over the wound to try and staunch the flow of blood.

I was the only one in the office at that time that held Jesus as Lord. I remember staring out at the few workers that had gathered around her in shock, and then I simply said out loud, “Father, I don’t want this to be this way; please help!”

I took away the bloody tissue, and her face was perfect – no wound and no blood! My secretary’s assistant fainted!

They both came to Christ a few days later …

Trust Him.

KARP (VOL I)

ADVENTURES & ANGELS

My book has finally been published …

Other than the Prologue, which has been deliberately paused at the part of the supernatural intervention of GOD, the remaining chapters are written to introduce a wonderful character called Karp and his accompanying characters.

Most of the poignant life stories we review have either been based upon my own life experiences, testimonies I’ve read and heard, or heart-rending situations that have impacted me sufficiently to make me want to shout out and echo the words of so many philosophers before me through the ages, “those who cannot learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.”

As we meet each character and they open their lives to examination, we see how similar we all really are. How the same grasping passions that were at work in our ancestors in the first century – greed, pride, fear, doubt and even self-loathing, run eternally and consistently through us all within the twenty-first. Even though we view life through a harsh unbending prism of reality because the light and hope of God burns anew and ever faithful towards his children who are locked within their own personal struggles.

In the opening chapters, we see how Karp’s family perished through an outbreak of Cholera and how, in his depressive state, he was kidnapped, brutally abused, and forced into slavery, yet divinely protected and ultimately loved and mothered through the rekindled kindness of a lonely old spinster, who we find is none other than a seventy-year-old, depressed, and companionless, Mary Magdalene.

We also meet several other predominant characters who have already enjoyed a footnote in Christian lore and world mythology. These characters are brought back into the light within the pages of the book, and as we investigate their lives, I believe that we, too, will be challenged by their choices.

From helping a King to rescue a kidnapped princess and working covertly with the occupying Roman forces to rid the islands of evil marauding pirates to then dealing with the terrible demonic powers at the temple of Artemis of Ephesus, Karp is always at the forefront of adventurous events and spurs us all on ever to choose the greater paths of hope and faith.

If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate. If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing.

If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.

Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have. Love doesn’t strut, Doesn’t have a swelled head, Doesn’t force itself on others, Isn’t always “me first,” Doesn’t fly off the handle, Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others, Doesn’t revel when others grovel, Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, Puts up with anything, Trusts God always, Always looks for the best, Never looks back, But keeps going to the end…

…we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love. (‭‭1 Cor‬ ‭13)
